Dr. Damon G. Pleasant was born in Chillicothe, Ohio. His father was the chief purchasing agent for the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad. Soon after his birth, the Pleasants moved to Indiana, and then to West Virginia where he graduated from Parkersburg High School. He then spent two years in Morgantown at West Virginia University before finishing up at the University of Kentucky where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree. While in WVU, he was presented the Convair Award as an outstanding cadet in the AFROTC. He then entered the United States Air Force and spent three years in Morocco, North Africa. During his time in the Air Force, he won the Individual Pistol Championship for the 16th Air Force (Spain & Morocco) in the Strategic Air Command.
Returning to Lexington, Dr. Pleasant remained in the Reserves and attended Dental School at the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry. He started his practice in 1968 on North Broadway. Being introduced to sports car racing in Europe while in the military, he started racing with the Sports Car Club of America in 1973. He went on to win the National Championship in 1976 (C-Sedan Class). He was presented with the Mark Donohue Award for outstanding performance at that time.
Dr. Pleasant joined the American Dental Association when he started his practice and a few years later he joined the Academy of General Dentistry. He continued to study dentistry and in 1991 was awarded “Fellowship” status in the AGD. Dr. Pleasant is a past President of the Lexington Kiwanis Club and has been a member for over 35 years. Recently, the AGD has awarded Dr. Pleasant “Emeritus” status in that organization.
